YAAA Offers Career Development Workshops

Friday, March 3, 2017

(Monday Morningt News Staff)

Join the Yale African American Affinity Group (YAAA) for two career-building workshops focusing on the Individual Development Plan (IDP) and creating a career plan. The free workshops are open to all Yale employees; please register if you plan to attend.

An IDP starts with an annual conversation between a manager and a staff member that is transformed into an action plan of realistic steps the employee can take to help him or her build a desired skill, better use existing talents, or prepare for a career goal. The IDP is complementary to the annual performance management process and encourages employees to invest in their work and themselves, contributing to greater job satisfaction.

In preparation for the IDP workshop, please view this video: Vice President Michael Peel introduces the concepts behind IDP.

YAAA Individual Development Plan Workshop
Friday, March 10, 2017
Noon-1:00 p.m.
55 Whitney Ave., Room 369

Whether you are considering a new challenge, just planning ahead, or unhappy with where you are now, it's always the right time to pay attention to whether our work is the right fit.

We all have things that we do very well and should have a job that needs our skills. Just as important, we need to make sure our job is a good match with our interests and that the workplace culture is one that is aligned with what we value. Even in economically challenged times, we need work that is the best match we can find that uses the unique skills and qualities we bring to the table.

This class, offered at two locations, will help with developing a practical approach.
