ITS Career Development Program

The ITS Career Development Program was established to provide staff development opportunities to current ITS staff, allowing them to serve a six-month assignment in another area of ITS. As a participant in the CDP, an employee is provided on-the-job training for a specific job, allowing them to learn new skills.  Upon completion of the assignment, staff return to their original position with new-found knowledge about the department, team, and work activities.

Requirements for CDP applicants:

  • Gain approval from current direct supervisor; the applicant should have had a Individual Development Plan (IDP) conversation with supervisor
  • Submit application to hiring manager
  • Be in good standing in current role
  • Applicants must not have participated in a CDP in the past year (in the past two years preferred), unless approved by supervisor and hiring manager

Requirements for CDP managers:

  • Complete assignment description (must be submitted to HR for review before posting)
  • Skills and abilities required
  • Description of skills and abilities that will be gained (that a candidate will have at the conclusion of a successful assignment)
  • Description of the assignment that will be performed (e.g. a blurb that would go on a resume)
  • Two or three main goals of the assignment (such as would go on a FOCUS form)
  • Training opportunities for this assignment if required skills and abilities are not met (e.g. a candidate is not qualified for this opportunity at the current time, they could speak with their supervisor in an  IDP meeting and express an interest in these training opportunities)
  • Interview all interested candidates, make selection
  • While CDP is in progress, provide ongoing feedback and management to the candidate
